The Day of Pentecost is one of the great feast days of the Church. Celebrated fifty days after Easter, Pentecost marks the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples, empowering them to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people from every nation and language. Often called the “birthday of the Church,” Pentecost reminds us that God did not leave His followers alone after Christ’s resurrection and ascension. Instead, God sent the Holy Spirit to guide, strengthen, and unite the Church in its mission.
In the Episcopal Church, Pentecost is more than a single Sunday celebration. The long season that follows—often called the Season after Pentecost—is a time of growth and discipleship. During these months, we reflect on what it means to live as followers of Jesus in our everyday lives. While the joy of Easter proclaims Christ’s victory over death, the Season after Pentecost invites us to ask an important question: “How is God calling us to live because of that victory?” Through worship, prayer, scripture, fellowship, and service, we seek to grow in faith and become more faithful witnesses to God’s love.
Pentecost also reminds us that the Church is a community gathered by the Holy Spirit. The disciples came from different backgrounds and spoke different languages, yet God united them in a common purpose. Today, the Spirit continues to bring together people of all ages, experiences, and walks of life. At Trinity Episcopal Church, we believe that everyone has a place in God’s story.
